PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

IRWIN High Speed Steel Countersinks feature a precision-ground 82-degree tip that makes them ideal for countersinking into most machinable metals. They're made from industrial grade high speed steel for increased durability, and they include a black oxide finish for added corrosion resistance. The five flute design reduces vibration for smoother drilling and extended life. Plus, the 1/4" round shank fits all handheld and stationary drills.

Speed & Lubrication: Use moderate speeds, especially in metal. The small bit can heat up quickly. If you are countersinking metal, use a cutting oil or lubricant. In wood/plastic, watch for burning (in wood) or melting (plastics).

Depth Control: Because flute length is only about 19/64 in, realize that deeper recesses beyond that could cause rubbing rather than clean cutting. Use stops or mark the required depth.

Care & Maintenance: Clean out chips, avoid overheating to retain temper of HSS. Keep dry or lightly oiled to avoid corrosion, especially since black oxide helps some but is not foolproof.

Applications: Commonly used in cabinetry, metal fabrication, DIY projects, machine work where flush mount screws are required. Because of its small size, good for pilot holes + countersinking in one pass for smaller fasteners.
