PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The Irwin 12413 is a high speed steel countersinks are milled and precision ground to 82 degrees tip for countersinking into most machinable materials, including iron, steel, soft metals, plastic or wood. They are available in 1/2-in, 5/8-in and 3/4-in diameters.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

Black oxide finish: helps resist rust and reduce glare; may help chip-break

Five-flute design: better balance, reduced chatter/vibration, smoother cutting.

INSIGHTS:

Speed and Feed: Use moderate speeds for HSS. For metals, preferably use some lubrication or coolant to prevent overheating. Wood/plastics can be run somewhat faster, but watch for burning or melting.

Control Depth: Since overall length is ~1-13?16 in, take care not to try countersinking too deeply beyond the flute length, or risk rubbing.

Chuck Fit: Ensure drill or press chuck grips the ¼-inch shank tightly; any slippage = heat, dulling, and poor finish.

Maintain Sharpness: Sharpen if edges get dull; avoid overheating to preserve hardness. Clean out chips between uses.

Storage and Finish Care: Even with black oxide, moisture will corrode. Wipe down after use, apply light oil if storing long term.
