Nurturing Young Minds: SSL Supports the MINDSTAR Spelling Bee 2025

On Friday, August 8th, 2025, the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) was buzzing with excitement as over one hundred bright young minds gathered for the highly anticipated MINDSTAR Spelling Bee. Proudly part-sponsored by Southern Supplies Limited (SSL), the event brought together students from First Year to Form Five, competing across multiple categories in a celebration of literacy, learning, and determination.

A Day of Talent, Energy, and Community

 

From the moment the competition began, SAPA’s auditorium was filled with the lively energy of enthusiastic students, supportive parents, and proud educators. Each participant showcased not just their spelling skills, but also their dedication, discipline, and composure under pressure.
The event coordinator, A.L. Williams Educational Services, shared that the MINDSTAR Spelling Bee was created to cultivate literacy, promote technological awareness, and inspire innovation among the youth of Trinidad and Tobago — values closely aligned with SSL’s own commitment to community development and education.

Words of Encouragement from Leaders

 

The competition drew the attention of key figures in education and local government. Karen Ramdahin-Nandaram, District Curriculum Coordinator at the Ministry of Education, highlighted the event’s alignment with the Ministry’s strategic vision for educational transformation:
“Keep learning, keep aiming higher, and never underestimate the power of the mind, fuelled by curiosity and determination.”
She emphasized the importance of nurturing well-rounded citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development. Mayor of San Fernando, Robert Parris, also praised the initiative, urging parents to continue supporting their children not only academically, but also in diverse areas of personal growth. Special guest speaker Alex Xavier Modeste, who recently scored an impressive 96% in the SEA Mathematics exam, encouraged his peers to “study hard, enjoy school, and adapt to change.
