Globe valves are closing-down valves in which the disc moves squarely on and off the seat, making the port opening directly proportional to the travel of the disc. This proportional relationship makes them ideal for applications requiring precise flow regulation. For enhanced control, the disc can be designed in parabolic, needle, or vee-port types. The short travel between open and closed positions also makes globe valves well-suited for frequent on-off service. These valves are unidirectional and are typically installed with fluid pressure applied under the disc.
